Cécile M. DeWitt

Cecile DeWitt-Morette is Jane and Roland Blumberg Centennial Professor Emerita at the University of Texas at Austin. She founded the Les Houches summer school series in 1951, was co-director of the Institute for Field Physics with her husband Bryce DeWitt, and was chief organizer of the Chapel Hill conference of the role of gravitation in physics reproduced here. Recognition for her achievements include the Marcel Grossman Award and the American Society of the French Legion of Honor Medal for Distinguished Achievement. Her recent books include Functional Integration: Action and Symmetries (Cambridge University Press, 2007) and The Pursuit of Quantum Gravity: Memoirs of Bryce DeWitt from 1946 to 2004 (Springer, 2011).
